Our disability and aged care support workers, who we call Social Carers, are paid $38.30 per hour on weekdays and $50.40 per hour on weekends and public holidays for one-on-one support.

What documents do I need for my application?
You must provide the following documents before you can become a Social Carer:
Our Social Carers are self-employed. This means you’ll need a valid ABN and the right to work in Australia. Getting an ABN is free. Learn more.
2. National Disability Insurance Scheme Worker Check
On 1 February 2021, the NDIS established a new worker check to create better protections for participants. If you do not currently have one, you can learn how to apply for an NDIS worker check here. It may take 1-2 weeks for your NDISWC to be processed and verified.
3. NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate of Completion
The NDIS Worker Orientation Module, “Quality, Safety and You”, is a mandatory requirement to work within the NDIS and only takes about 90 minutes to complete. It will give you a sound understanding of what it’s like working in the industry and offer tips on how to become an excellent Social Carer. You can access it on the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission’s website.
4. Three reliable references
You’ll need to provide three references we can contact before we can approve your application. You may wish to nominate a colleague, employee or supervisor. They cannot be family members. Learn more.
5. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
As a registered NDIS provider, our Social Carers are subject to all government mandates regarding COVID-19 vaccinations for aged care and disability support workers. You must be fully vaccinated according to your state government’s requirements. Read our COVID-19 vaccination policy here.
6. COVID-19 Infection Control Module Certificate of Completion
This Department of Health module covers the fundamentals of infection prevention and control for COVID-19. It is mandatory for anyone who works in healthcare settings. Once you have attained the Certificate of Completion, it can be uploaded to your Social Carer account. Complete the COVID-19 Infection Control Traininghere.
7. 100 points of ID and right to work
Social Carers must be able to verify their identity and right to work in Australia by producing 100 points of identification upon request. Learn what documents can be accepted for identity verification here.
The following documents are optional, but will allow you to apply for more jobs on our platform:
1. Working with Children Check/Blue Card
A growing number of our Members are under the age of 18. If you wish to work with them, you will need to upload a valid Working with Children Check (NSW/VIC/SA) or Blue Card (QLD). Learn more.
2. Driver’s licence and vehicle registration details
About 30% of Activities posted on our platform involve transportation. If you wish to provide transport to Members, you must provide a clear photo or screenshot of your current driver’s licence and the registration details of every vehicle you wish to use. You must also declare that the vehicle is appropriately insured and agree to the Like Family transport policy. Learn more.

What does the job involve?
You can pick and choose the jobs that you are interested in and people you feel comfortable with.
Take Ben to the skate park this weekend
I’m looking for a young Carer to take my son Ben to the skate park and play video games. Ben is 16 and has autism, and loves being outdoors.
Do you love cooking?
Looking for someone who can take me to the supermarket weekly, cook me healthy and fresh meals twice a week and also clean up afterwards.
Looking for ongoing transport support
I am looking for a Carer with a wheelchair accessible car who can drive me to and from appointments and occasionally take me to places like museums and art galleries.
Sunday sport day
I would like someone to take me to touch football every third Sunday. On the other Sundays I am trying to get into sports with special Olympics so I would need to be taken there as well.

Why does Like Family call its support workers “Social Carers”?
Unlike other aged care and disability support providers, Like Family provides social care. Our Social Carers help people in need to gain confidence, engage with their community and have fun. You can assist our members with activities like household tasks, exercise, arts & craft, and even accompany them to social events.
As a Social Carer, who would I provide support to?
As a Social Carer, you’ll connect with Members who are ill, injured, elderly or living with a disability.
Do I need previous experience to work as a Social Carer?
No. You don’t need previous experience to become a Social Carer.
Do Social Carers get paid or is this voluntary?

What do I need to become a Social Carer?
* An ABN is required to work for us as you’ll be a self-employed worker
