How To Play LoL At 120Hz

Everything about displays and monitors. 120Hz, 144Hz, 240Hz, 4K, 1440p, input lag, display shopping, monitor purchase decisions, compare, versus, debate, and more. Questions? Just ask!

I have a BenQ XL2411Z and I’m using a VT 1502 Tweak but whenever I play League of Legends in fullscreen it forces 144Hz. Is there any way to play it at 120Hz besides playing in windowed/borderless?

If you never play 144Hz, delete 144Hz via a custom resolution utility. That forces all games to run at the next highest mode. Very hacky, but works.

There are other tricks that avoid that, but are often very game-specific. NVIDIA Control Panel has a “Preferred Refresh Rate” setting but only selects between “Application Controlled” versus “Highest Hz”. Try both settings if you really do not want to delete your 144Hz mode.

Just in case you get stuck and want it back:

Readding 144Hz can be done by
– Add it back, using “Reduced Blanking” timing.
– Failing that, use ToastyX reset-all.exe (if you used ToastyX)
– Graphics Driver reinstall

Yes but LoL always forces the highest possible frequency.
Deleting 144Hz with ToastyX CRU worked. Thank you very much Chief, I’ve been writing with the LoL support for weeks and they couldn’t find a solution.

If LoL is one of those games that simply pick the first listed refresh rate, then this might work. If LoL explicitly picks the highest refresh rate, then it will of course not work.
