USB Extendersbooster Do They Work

1. > Hi I’ve got a situation where my PC needs to be far away from my montior/touchpad/keyboard/scanner (long story,it’s complicated) and I’m trying to figure out how well these ‘USB extender’s I’ve read about work and how cheaply I might be able to create these extensions. If anyone has any experience using these I was wondering if they really seamlessly transmit the signal without any lag? Like if I hook up a USB extender feet between my PC and my touchpad (I use instead of a mouse) would it really work as fast the 4ft cable, would I notice a lag? I’ve seen this Sarbent ‘active extender’ and this IOgear ‘booster’. Are those both the same thing or is there a difference between them? Has anyone used the Walmart Sarbent cables, because they are the cheapest I have found….four extenders could run me alot of money. /en/ip/usb-20-…rch=&fromSearchBox=true&addFacet=2004:Sabrent /ip/USB-2.0-Booster-Extension-Cable-16-Feet/ Thanks for any feedback robert707,Jan 29, 2013#1

> Either of those cables, daisy chained together to the length you require, should work just fine for you. They appear to be equivalent in the specs dept, so I’d just go with whichever one is easiest to get.

> What type of connector are you using for the monitor? If it is VGA then 50′ – 70′ away will not cut it.

4. > @plodr: The output is either VGA or HDMI, but I just got new HD monitor with HDMI input and I want to use it so I also need to figure out a way to hook up the monitor. What are your thoughts on the ‘active extenders’? Do those boost the signal on there own?I also found this USB-to-Cat5 extender which might save me some money: /en/ip/usb-extension-cable/ ?trail=SRCH:C Would that work as well as the ‘active extenders’ or should I skip that ? As for the monitor I’m going to have to get a long HDMI cable or use this similar HDMI to Cat6 adapter if anyone thinks that is a good idea: /product_info.php?cPath=98_102&item_id= robert707,Jan 29, 2013#4

5. > I would recommend using a Cat5 USB Extender solution. If you are looking for fast speed signal transmission you might want to go with USB 2.) Extender solution (Part # USB2EXT-1P).
